It is with great sadness that we pass on the news that Leslie Skipper passed away today.
History was one of Les’s passions, and asone of the founder members, was part of the core of what it was to be H.R.W.
Whilst often appearing a quiet chap, was always caring, considerate, aware of others and hospitable.  There was always an open house for friends to stay and he and Caroline hosted many of the societies meetings and social events.
He was always keen to share his knowledge, lend his personal kit, encourage and support newer members,  it was never about ‘self’.   Supporting and delivering a good event for the public was always more important than just his own role.
How many public visitors to HRW events have been fascinated, enlightened,  entertained and educated by Les in one of his many roles will never be known, but it will run into many thousands.
As a Tudor farmer, servant, Yeoman, gentleman, chapman, beggar, labourer and dozens of other characters,   including the diarist Samuel Pepys to many local school children,  he reached many people.
We will miss you Les, and never forget you.
There are more tributes on our facebook page.

We are a small but nationally based interpretation group, covering Tudor and Stuart domestic life. Founded in 1985, we have been recreating historic families in first person, to give visitors of historic houses an educational and memorable visit.
Created with WebSite X5
Registered Charity Nº 1040799
We specialise in turning an old house into a home, bringing a Tudor or Stuart family to life, to fully interact with your visitors.
We can also offer a range of variations around the same period, depending on what you have available.
We are always keen for new people to come and join us. As we recreate domestic life, we're open to all. No previous experience or in depth knowledge is required. The 'Workshop' in our title is all about training our members.
